‘We have a dream’ – Martin Luther King, dreaming in worship and in the world

Saturday 6th & Sunday 7th July 2024

Next summer, Northern College launches its new conference which will help people to dream new dreams.

It is aimed at everyone who’s interested in how worship can influence the life of the church and its mission in the world – including lay preachers, worship leaders and ministers seeking some refreshment, as well as elders or anyone eager to explore the place of worship in creating change.

The theme will be ‘We have a dream’ – Martin Luther King, dreaming in worship and in the world. Our guest speaker is Revd Dr Livingstone Thompson, a Moravian minister and speaker with particular interest in the life and work of the civil rights activist – who will lead us in exploring Dr King’s dream and its potential implications for the UK today. He will also lead an optional workshop on racism awareness, relevant to worship and mission. While this theme picks up on the United Reformed Church’s work towards being an anti-racist church, people from any church tradition are very welcome.

Staff of Northern College will lead other plenary sessions and optional workshops, exploring the Bible’s approach to dreaming and envisioning, and other topics related to Dr King’s work for racial and economic justice.

The conference will run from 11am on Saturday 6th July to 3.30pm on Sunday 7th July – and it is possible to attend residentially (£225 per person) or non-residentially (£155 per person).
